Dear Abergele Residents,
The Town Council have set their budget for 2026/27, and the following was agreed by the Council:
The Band D Council tax rate will increase from £70.70 in 2025/26 to £75.67 for 2026/27. It was agreed that the 2026/27 Precept is set at £392,750, an increase of £26,291 from the 2025/26 Precept of £366,750.
The Council will use £126,346 of its reserve to balance the budget leaving them with £91,140 in its reserves for the year. This is below the recommended 25% by the Governance Accountability Practitioners Guide Wales 2024 and the Internal Auditor. The Council have made this decision in order to be able to continue to fund the following for the year:
(a) Annual Firework display
(b) Summer Family Event
(c) Town Christmas lights
(d) Sponsorship of the toilets in Pensarn
(e) Sponsorship for the Town Car parks to remain free
(f) Maintaining the Town bus shelters
(g) Maintaining various planters and open space at the Mount
(h) Grant funding for local schools and community groups
(i) Maintaining various footpaths in the area
(j) Fund and maintain various lights in the Town i.e. Pensarn promenade, Gwrych Castle Turrets, the MUGA and Skate park lights in Pentre Mawr Park
(k) Remembrance Sunday parade and service
(l) Annual Christmas Concert
(m) The Town Council Newsletter
This list is not exhaustive but provides an overview of what the Council currently funds and will continue to endeavour to apply for grant funding to support all its projects.
