Civic Sunday - Presentation of the Mayor to the Town
On Sunday 29th June 2025, Abergele Town Council held its annual Civic Service at Yr Hen Ysgol to formally present Cllr Tracey Brennan as Mayor to the town and to seek God’s blessing on the Council’s work for the year ahead.
The service, led by Canon John Nice, brought together councillors, community members, and local schools in a spirit of gratitude and commitment to public service, and Canon Kate Johnson provided a blessing on the newly opened community space. Attendees were welcomed with music from harpists Ela and Mia, followed by a performance from Ysgol Glan Morfa School Choir, directed by Hugh Rhys-Williams and accompanied by Mrs Bethan Owen on the piano.
Representatives from The Mayor’s charities, Sarah Pacelli and Lindsay Nicholson (Domestic Abuse Safety Unit) and Mr. Peter Hughes (Marie Curie) shared important information and inspirational stories about the work they do, and the people they support.
The Mayor, Cllr Brennan shared a reading from Matthew 25:34–40 and made a public declaration of her commitment to community life, expressing a vision of shared responsibility, dignity, and hope for all.
The service concluded with hymns and blessings, including “Hen Wlad fy Nhadau” and “God Save the King.”
The Mayor extended sincere thanks to all who attended and contributed to the occasion, with special appreciation for Canon John Nice and Canon Kate Johnson for their spiritual leadership, Ela and Mia for their harp performances, Ysgol Glan Morfa Choir for their musical performance, and Abergele TV’s George Frost and Carl Bishop for capturing the event on film.
Afternoon tea was served following the service, and a collection was held in support of DASU and Marie Curie.
